Mercedes-Benz Announced as Principal Partner of National Gallery of Victoria's Key Summer Exhibition
MELBOURNE – Sept 26, 2013: Mercedes-Benz Australia/Pacific is proud to confirm a new partnership with the National Gallery of Victoria as the Principal Partner of its key summer exhibition, ‘Melbourne Now’, being held from 22 November 2013 to 23 March 2014. Offering a summer exhibition for the very first time, ‘Melbourne Now’ represents an ambitious new direction for the National Gallery of Victoria.
This exciting new exhibition will be broad-ranging in focus to include contemporary art commissions across a variety of media and art forms by emerging artists and established practitioners, whose work continues to be innovative.
‘Melbourne Now’ will celebrate contemporary art, design and creative practice produced in Melbourne. To reflect the city’s complex cultural landscape, the exhibition will also look beyond the inner suburbs, to wider suburban and regional contexts and academic communities, exploring the issues and subjects that drive its artistic community.
To commemorate the partnership, Melbourne Now artist Tully Moore has been commissioned to paint the bonnet of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class. Upon its completion, this unique piece will be shown as part of Melbourne Now exhibition and will tour the Victorian Mercedes-Benz dealer network. A short film documenting the creation of the piece will also capture the inspiration behind the artwork.
The ‘Melbourne Now’ summer exhibition commences at the National Gallery of Victoria on 22 November 2013.
