SYDNEY – Sept 26, 2013: Volkswagen has again triumphed in Wheels magazine’s annual Gold Star Value Awards 2013 with three vehicles taking home the gong and a further five appearing among the top three in their categories.

The new Golf 90TSI Trendline has been awarded the best value vehicle in the small car category up to $25,000. “The VW (is) at or near the top for frugality and resale, while never dipping too far in the rest of the rankings,” said the judging panel, “It highlights how far the latest petrol-drivetrain technology has come.”

In the medium car category up to $45K, the Volkswagen Jetta 118TSI DSG took top spot, while the Golf Cabriolet was named the most value-packed convertible to $60,000, recognised for its competitive price and consistently high resale.

Of the Jetta, the judges praised its fuel economy, size and performance, “The Vee Dub’s 6.2l/100km parsimony from the spirited 1.4-litre twincharger petrol four/DSG combo plays a handy dividend,” Wheels stated.

John White, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Australia, said of the wins; “The Volkswagen Golf Mk7 continues to receive recognition for its class-leading abilities, with the Jetta and Golf Cabriolet once again taking top spots over some respected rivals.”

“Not to be ignored, the up!, Polo 77TSI, Golf 110TDI, Touareg V6 TDI and Golf GTI were also ranked among the top three in their class proving just how diverse our model range is.”

Wheels Gold Star Value Awards compared vehicles in 20 categories ranging from Sub-B babies under $14K to performance cars up to $150K and considered a range of criteria including warranty, fuel economy, purchase price, depreciation, insurance costs, service schedules and prices.
