LONDON – Sept 25, 2013: On Sunday 22nd September, Bowdon RUFC’s under-12s were the lucky recipients of a training session with rugby legend Toby Flood. The club were treated to the training session as a part of a special prize that Edward Wheeler won at last season’s Sale Sharks Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup.

The excited youngsters were put through their paces by Toby, who took them through a number of drills and taught them some tricks of the trade; all of which can now be put to good use in the season ahead. The session finished with a training match which Toby refereed, providing the aspiring rugby players a chance to put into practice what they had learnt from the morning’s session.

Once training had finished, Toby held a question and answer session for the enthusiastic players, who also had the opportunity to have their photo taken with the star, as well as get his autograph.

The Land Rover Premiership Rugby Cup is a series of national grassroots festivals run in conjunction with Premiership Rugby. At last season’s series of festivals, Land Rover were offering the chance for teams to win a training session with England Rugby and Premiership Rugby star Toby Flood.

Flood was pleased to be at the event, “Today is all about getting back to grassroots rugby through the support of Land Rover. I’ve been here coaching 30 kids from Bowdon RUFC, I really enjoy doing this kind of activity and passing on some of the lessons that I’ve learnt along the way. I’m lucky enough to play rugby as a job and it’s nice to give something back to young aspiring rugby players.”

Speaking on this once in a lifetime opportunity, the winning child Edward said “It was really exciting, I have watched Toby Flood on TV and it was amazing to talk to him and have a training session with him. I was really pleased to win this prize for the rest of my team.”
