GOLD COAST / SYDNEY – Aug 29, 2013: Two Gold Coast-based players have won the national final of Audi’s quattro Cup golf tournament in Australia. Blake Fowler and Haydn Chambers, customers of Audi Centre Gold Coast, won the final on countback, following a three-way tie for first place after play at the exclusive Capital Golf Club in Melbourne.

Coming in a close second on count back was Giacinto Bosco and Duncan Draper, guests of Audi Solitaire in SA, and Jacob Balajan and Bill Roach, representing Audi Centre Sydney, who placed third in the final.

The winners of the national final were announced by Audi’s Managing Director, Andrew Doyle, at a gala dinner in Melbourne on Monday night.

Following the announcement, winning player Haydn Chambers, commented that playing in the National Final of the Audi quattro Cup at the Capital Golf Club was an experience of a lifetime.

“From the moment we played in our local Audi quattro Cup tournament at Sanctuary Cove through to the completion of the National Final in Melbourne, the communication and organisation behind the scenes was absolutely flawless. Our main goal was to have fun at golf and with (rugby great) Matthew Burke as one of our playing partners, there was plenty of friendly banter,” Mr Chambers said.

“Winning the event was an unexpected bonus and it was a nerve-racking five hours waiting to hear which of the three tied teams was going to be declared the winner on countback. I would like to thank everyone at Audi Australia involved with the Audi quattro Cup and a special thank you to James, Brett and Rebecca Frizelle from Audi Centre Gold Coast for their first class service over the years and their initial invitation to play in our local qualifying event.”

“We look forward to the Audi quattro Cup World Final in Los Angeles and hope we can fly the flag for Australia.”

Worldwide, Audi is one of the largest supporters of amateur golf through the Audi quattro Cup tournament. Since the event was first staged in 1997, more than 1 million people have competed.

Audi’s Managing Director, Andrew Doyle, said that the brand was pleased to support customers with this event and to promote the sport of golf in Australia.

“This year alone, 19 tournaments were played in Australia at some of the best golf clubs on offer, and more than 1,800 players competed. We had great success in 2012 with our very own national winners taking out the World Cup final in South Africa, an example of what a strong competition we have established in Australia,” Mr Doyle said.

“We are serious about our golf, and in addition to the Audi quattro Cup, we’ve stepped up to take on a major sponsorship of the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open, and we are a sponsor of the Australian Amateur Championships. We are also a partner of Golf Australia. Golf is a great fit for Audi because it embraces precision and technical excellence, and demands focus and concentration, yet it’s a very social sport,” he added.

Haydn Chambers and Blake Fowler will now pack up their clubs and head to the international showdown with participants from around the world at Trump National in LA in November.

The pressure will be on the duo following the 2012 World Final which saw Australian’s, Giora Friede and Jason Rubenstein, take the No. 1 spot. In the history of the game, only one other Australian duo has won the global final – in 2007 in Mexico.

TaylorMade, Shiseido and Lacoste are supporting sponsors of the Audi quattro Cup in Australia.
