Shannons Continue Rare Bike Rollout in Sydney
SYDNEY – Aug 6, 2013: Shannons is rolling out more significant classic and vintage motorcycles from two major Australian collections at its Sydney Spring Classic Auction on October 21.
These include some of the world’s rarest Harley-Davidsons – four with no reserve – plus 10 more motorcycles including British Ariel, Norton, Royal Enfield and Triumph models from a larger major Sydney collection of some 60 motorcycles– all with no reserve.
The two-wheel rollout follows recent auction sales by Shannons of an early Honda collection and a selection of British Matchless and AJS machines from the same vendor and, most recently, nine classic Harley-Davidsons from a Sydney Harley collector at its MotorEx sale in Sydney.
The Harley-Davidson collection was assembled over a period of about 40 years and involved the vendor travelling to many parts of the world to visit motorcycle museums, private Harley-Davidson collections and to meet enthusiasts to seek out rare machines to purchase for the collection. His aim was to have a Harley of each kind and type from the earliest models.
The previous sale of nine machines from his Harley collection attracted International interest at MotorEx, with all selling at or above estimate after being offered with no reserve.
The additional Harleys from the collection being offered on October 21
are in various stages of restoration. They are:
The 10 predominantly British motorcycles from the other collection are all being offered with no reserve.
They include four Triumphs: a 1956 Tiger T100 and a 1959 Trophy 500cc (both with all alloy engines), a 1951 Triumph 5T 500 (sprung hub model) and a 1969 Trident (Ray gun pipes with twin leading shoe brakes).
The other British bikes are two Post-war Ariels – a 1948 Ariel 500cc Twin and a 1949 Ariel Red Hunter 500cc single – a 1971 Norton 750cc Fastback and a 1951 Royal Enfield Bullet 350c.
An Italian 1970 Moto Guzzi Ambassador 750cc and a German BMW R75/5 750 complete the bikes from this collection in the spring auction.
Not in the October auction, but available for sale through Shannons Sydney showroom, is a 1954 Matchless G45 500cc Production Racer.
