DENVER--July 30, 2013: This Saturday, August 3rd, more than 1,000 walkers are expected to support Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Colorado at the 8th annual Denver Walk Like MADD event. The 5K walk route will circle Sloan's Lake Park and raise awareness and funds to help eliminate drunk driving and support victims and survivors in Colorado.

This year, two special guests will be attending the Denver Walk Like MADD: MADD National President Jan Withers will be speaking during the opening ceremonies, and KOSI 101's Murphy Huston will be master of ceremonies for the event. The opening ceremonies start at 8:30 a.m., and the walk begins at 9:00 a.m. In addition to the walk itself, other festivities will include music, a Health & Safety Fair, Kids' Zone, Teen Scene and Doggie Den.

"This event is really a chance for people in the Denver area to come together and walk for a safer future, while also honoring those who've been injured and killed in drunk driving crashes," says Withers.

The cost to participate in the Denver Walk Like MADD is $20 for adults and $15 for youth ages 5 to 21. To sign-up, form a team or make a donation, visit Walk Like MADD. Participants may also bring friendly, leashed dogs to walk with them.

Funds raised through Walk Like MADD further MADD's lifesaving mission and its Campaign to Eliminate Drunk Driving, which calls for high-visibility law enforcement, ignition interlocks for all convicted drunk drivers and support for the development of advanced in-vehicle technology to automatically determine if a driver is drunk.

The 2013 Denver Walk Like MADD is presented by Bachus & Schanker, LLC, MADD Colorado's Statewide Sponsor, and American Family Insurance.

"We are excited to support Walk Like MADD as the Statewide Sponsor of MADD Colorado," says Darin L. Schanker, founding partner of Bachus & Schanker, LLC. "We see the devastating effects of drunk driving on victims and their families. Through our contributions and continued participation as MADD Colorado's Statewide Sponsor, we support the invaluable programs and victim services provided by MADD."

David Carter, Colorado Sales Director for American Family Insurance, also expressed his company's support for MADD, saying: "We're honored to be a Local Presenting Sponsor of Walk Like MADD. We're coming together as neighbors, co-workers, families and friends to join MADD in making our roads safer."

The Denver Walk Like MADD is also sponsored by King Soopers, KOSI 101, Jay's Valet, NuBilt Restoration & Construction and the law firm of Bell & Pollock.

"The injuries and loss of life are tragedies," says Brad Pollock of the law firm of Bell & Pollock. "Walk Like MADD allows us to be a part of MADD's mission to keep our roads safe and support victims of drunk driving crashes."

In 2011 alone, 161 people in Colorado were killed in drunk driving crashes. MADD Colorado serves 2,000 victim/survivors each year.
