MILWAUKEE--July 25, 2013: Johnson Controls today announced its board of directors has elected John Murphy as a corporate officer. Murphy was named president of the company's Global WorkPlace Solutions business reporting to Alex Molinaroli, vice chairman, on July 1.
Global WorkPlace Solutions is a leading provider of integrated facilities and corporate real estate management. On July 1, the company separated Global WorkPlace Solutions from the Building Efficiency business unit due to the growing differences in the business models and evolving market requirements of the two segments. This heightened focus will allow leadership to attend to the unique needs, opportunities, strategic positioning and performance of each business. Since Johnson Controls already details the Global WorkPlace Solutions results, no significant changes to external financial reporting are anticipated.
Murphy began his career as an officer in the United States Army. He joined Johnson Controls in 1999 as vice president of Global Strategic Marketing in the Building Efficiency business, has subsequently held several global management roles within the business and most recently served as vice president and general manager of North America-Systems, Latin America, Middle East, and Global Security. He has a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Notre Dame, a master's degree in chemical engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
