MELBOURNE – July 10, 2013: They say that old soldiers never retire. In their mind they are always old soldiers.

The same can be said of old racing cars. They may be old, but they are always racing cars and unlike old soldiers they can continue with their illustrious careers, albeit in a slightly different way.

A case in point is the forerunners of today’s V8 Supercars, the mighty V8 touring cars of the decade from 1993 to 2002!

Now, for the first time since their heyday these venerable, but still exciting V8 icons are going to strut their stuff at the ‘Winton Festival of Speed’ on August 10 and 11 over 3 “demonstration” races Saturday & Sunday.

This historic racing weekend will be held on Winton’s long track, thus enabling these touring cars the chance to stretch their legs.

Some of the ex V8 Supercars competing include the ex FTR Ford Credit AU Falcon of Crompton/Seton and the ex DJR EF/EL Shell Helix car of Johnson/Bowe.

As usual, the Speed Festival, the fourth of this successful event will feature a mouth-watering array of historic, sports and racing cars.

Once again the event will be run by the Victorian Historic Racing Register and Winton Motor Raceway.

The Australian 5-litre touring cars will take part in the ‘Precision International Cup’. There will also be the ‘Rose City Touring Car Trophy’, a 20-lap race for Group N historic touring cars featuring an exciting ‘rolling start’.

Another feature race will be the second running of the 15-lap ‘Rose City Tourist Trophy’ for sports and GT cars that will feature Porsches and such exotics as Panteras, Corvettes, Shelby GT 350s, Austin Healeys and Lotus.
