Precision Packaging, The Revamped BMW 1 Series Hatch

MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – June 17, 2013: BMW Australia today announced details of a substantial revision with increased value to its popular 1 Series hatch offering starting from July production. The revision includes an increase to the standard specification, revised pricing across all variants, as well as providing an intelligently packaged and simplified option programme.

According to Phil Horton, Managing Director for BMW Group Australia, every aspect of the BMW 1 Series hatch offer has come under review to ensure we are able to provide the best possible product to our customers.

“This revision has resulted in over $5000 of added value for the dynamic 1 Series hatch, in some cases much more, which means the entry point into the BMW brand has never been better value,” said Mr Horton.

Each BMW 1 Series hatch model has received an increase to its standard specification with the 116i, 118i and 118d now equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission. With the higher powered 125i and ballistic M135i receiving the eight-speed sport automatic, now with launch control function, as standard fitment.

Further additions to the standard specification for the entry point 116i include an upgrade to sensatec upholstery and rear park distance control.

Whilst the 118i, 118d and 125i also receive the upgraded sensatec upholstery, the standard equipment for these models is further boosted with Navigation system Business which includes a high resolution 6.5” screen and iDrive controller, as well as extended Smartphone connectivity including voice control and Bluetooth audio streaming.

Furthermore the 125i will also come equipped as standard with the 18” Double Spoke styling alloy wheels and Sport line which boasts sports seats for driver and front passenger, sports leather steering wheel, and exclusive High-Gloss black trims for the exterior and interior (with red accent lines).

The range topper for the 1 Series hatch, the M135i M performance car receives the biggest uplift in specification coupling the afore mentioned eight-speed sports automatic transmission, which improves fuel consumption and performance, with front and rear park distance control, Navigation system Professional now with the integrated touch controller function and internet functionality.

Additional enhancements to the BMW 1 Series hatch offering includes a completely restructured option programme which sees the most logical and commonly grouped options combined into ‘packages’ which benefit the customer by simplifying the choices as well as reducing the option pricing.

Starting with the Convenience Package, this combines a rain sensor, anti-dazzle interior mirror and extended Smartphone connectivity and is only available for the 116i.

The Advanced Parking Package, as the name suggests, combines BMWs parking assistant feature with front park distance control sensors (rears are already standard) and rear view camera to provide all the assistance possible for that perfect and safe parking manoeuvre.

The Visibility Package brings the highly advanced lighting systems together such as bi-xenon headlights including headlight washers, high-beam assistance, adaptive headlights (excluding 116i) and anti-dazzle exterior mirrors to provide the safest night time driving environment with increased illumination and awareness for the driver.

For your listening pleasure the Premium Sound Package brings together the Harman/kardon sound system with DAB radio for clearer, more precise sound reproduction.

Navigation system professional, internet functionality and an upgraded instrument cluster with extended contents join together with the Harman/kardon sound system and DAB radio to make up the content of the Professional Multimedia Package.

Whilst for more comfort oriented experience the Comfort Package consists of the comfort access system, electric seats with memory function as well as electrically adjustable lumbar supports and seat heating for the front seats.

Features such as metallic paintwork, sunroof, leather upholstery and though-loading system amongst others are still individually selectable.

The wholesale review of the 1 Series hatch offer has also resulted in a repricing across the range with a reduced MRLP in nearly all cases, but when combined with the specification uplift all models now represent a substantial increase in value.
