VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – June 6, 2013: As Mazda has reached new sales heights, so too has the number of customers accessorising their vehicle with Mazda genuine accessories.

Sales of Mazda genuine accessories have shown remarkable growth in recent times. In 2011, sales topped $37 million and by the end of 2012 this had improved by a further 40 per cent to over $63 million.

In 2013 so far, Mazda accessory sales are up a further 16 per cent and on track to break last year’s record.

With more people looking at ways to personalise their car and add value, Mazda has focussed on giving buyers a range of high quality accessories that are superbly designed, fit the vehicle perfectly, complement other accessories, maintain car and passenger safety and are covered by its new car warranty.

Currently, there are over 350 different types of new car accessories available across the Mazda line-up with 130 of those specific to the BT-50 utility.

The average new-car buyer is adding three accessories to their car or SUV, with the cargo tray, headlight protectors, reverse parking sensors, floor mats and alloy wheel rims being the most popular.

BT-50 owners purchase even more with an average of almost five accessories per vehicle; tub liners, bull bars, sports bars, seat covers, tow bars and reverse parking cameras top of the list for most.

These additions equate to an extra $694 being invested into the average car and SUV and $2,789 into the BT-50.

So important is the accessories market to Mazda’s top-line growth that it is continually looking for the best accessories available and the next big thing. Mazda has a knack of finding new and unique accessories; it was the first manufacturer in the Australian market to introduce the iPad holder and the chrome alloy bull bar.

While Mazda teams in Melbourne and Hiroshima are always on the lookout for the next big accessory, a watchful eye is kept on the entire range so that customers can be sure that their chosen accessory is available from their Mazda dealer.

Fit-rates determine whether an accessory is a success. Floor mats are the most popular genuine Mazda accessory with a fit-rate of just under 100 per cent.

More than 45 per cent of BT-50 buyers have chosen to fit a genuine Mazda bull bar while the soft tonneau cover, rear camera and 3.5 inch mirror kit, tub and tailgate liners and front seat covers all have a fit-rate of over 35 per cent.

Feedback from customers points to the fact that Mazda genuine accessories are their preferred option because of thorough testing, compliance with Australian Design Regulations and the backing of a factory warranty.

The genuine Mazda BT-50 bull bar is one of the best examples of this. Unlike aftermarket products, the genuine Mazda BT-50 bull bar has been designed not only to protect the vehicle and complement its stylish design but also to ensure that the airbag systems operate correctly in the event of an accident.

Mazda Australia marketing manager Alastair Doak pointed out that accessories are an important part of a new car purchase.

“Mazda offers the right accessories for the right car and only Mazda genuine parts are covered under our new car warranty. Putting Mazda approved accessories on a new car not only maintains the stylish look and feel that Mazda cars are renowned for, but they will be appreciated come re-sale time.”
