Mille Miglia 2013: JD Classics Supports Five Jaguar Heritage Racing Entries Over 5000 Trouble-Free Miles
ESSEX, UNITED KINGDOM – May 28, 2013: The JD Classics supported Jaguar Heritage Racing team has successfully completed the 2013 Mille Miglia. An all-star driver/navigator line-up from motor racing, fashion, film and sport each covered 1000 miles in three days of magnificent but challenging Brescia-Rome-Brescia road routes in five iconic classic Jaguars.
Amid a field of over 400 cars, a selection of exceptional Jaguars was prepared and loaned to Jaguar Heritage Racing by JD Classics. Consisting of C-types and XK120s, the chosen crews included Le Mans 24 Hours winner Andy Wallace and Sir Chris Hoy (XK120), supermodels David Gandy and Yasmin Le Bon (XK120), Chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Jim Gianopolus and three-times Oscar-winning actor Daniel Day-Lewis (XK120), Director of Jaguar Land Rover Europe Bernard Kuhnt and German actress Hannah Herzsprung (C-type).
Fronting this exciting entry list was Jaguar Heritage Racing’s works driver Alex Buncombe and motoring journalist Chris Harris in the ex-Juan Manuel Fangio C-type.
Each Jaguar Heritage Racing entry was prepared in-house at leading classic car specialist JD Classics’ purpose-built Maldon facility and its specialist team provided full event support for each of the respective crews, particularly the XK120 of David Gandy and Yasmin Le Bon after another competitor forced it off the road.
Also benefitting from JD Classics’ expert preparation and event support was an array of non-Jaguar customer machinery. This included the Lincoln Capri of Jeff Lotman and Brian Grozier, Austin Healey 100S of Keith Roberts and Rob Pinchbeck, Aston Martin DB2/4 Drophead of Lindsay Cooper and Alan Morrison, as well as the Cooper Jaguar T33 driven by JD Classics’ Managing Director Derek Hood and Race Team Manager Steve Riedling.
Exhilarated yet sleep deprived, all five works and four privateer entries reached the finish line in Brescia having successfully completed a celebration of ‘The World’s Most Beautiful Race’ – each undertaking 1000 miles of some of Italy’s most demanding roads.
Derek Hood, Managing Director, commented:
“I was very
proud to build on the success we had last year with Jaguar Heritage Racing.
It's a real honour to represent and support Jaguar Heritage at this iconic
event. I am also pleased to report that all of our cars and their crews
finished this demanding 1000 mile journey, which is a fantastic achievement
in itself.”
