(May 18) - Larry Morgan feels as good behind the wheel of the Lucas Oil/MAVTV Ford Mustang as he has the whole Pro Stock season, and the results during Saturday's qualifying backed it up. "I could tell by the time we got to the 60-foot mark," Morgan said. "I got the car into second gear and we were still going forward instead of sideways. I knew we'd figured out our problems. This is without a doubt the best the car has felt all year." Morgan qualified a season-best 11th for Sunday's eliminations at the NHRA Kansas Nationals and said it was a relief to have a car that reacts in a predictable way. "We ran pretty good," Morgan said. "We really weren't sure what it was going to do this weekend because we never got a chance to test the car once we fixed it. "We'd been so cautious with the car all year because of the problems. After the way it ran during qualifying here, I feel like we can really start to get after it now." Morgan has been wrestling with the electronics and a problem with the rear tires rubbing against the body of the car for much of the season. With both of those issues resolved, the team hopes to get back to the business of creating more horsepower and scoring better times on the track. "It seems like all of the testing we've been doing has been at the track, which is never good," Morgan said. "We made some big strides this weekend. Now we just need to go out there and kick some butt tomorrow like we're supposed to." Morgan had a best lap of 6.668 seconds at 206.99 mph. He will face No. 6 qualifier Greg Anderson, who recorded a 6.655 at 207.85 mph, in round one. "I'm really glad we're in a position where we can be competitive again," Morgan said. "Hopefully we can win a round or two for Lucas Oil and all of the other guys who support us. I'd really like to have a good weekend for my crew. They've put in a lot of effort to bring this car around and their work deserves to be rewarded by turning on the win light a couple of times on Sunday." Eliminations for Sunday's NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka will get under way at 11 a.m. CDT.
