"We've got new parts and pieces coming in every day," Brogdon said. "It's just going to take some time to get them all married together and running the way we want them to." For example, the new engine Brogdon used in his Camaro during the first three qualifying runs this weekend was not a happy one. "It's a fresh engine we just took out of the shop," Brogdon said. "It looked really good on the dyno but it just didn't want to go down the track. So before Q4, we swapped it out for an old reliable engine and it gave us our best numbers of the weekend." Brogdon said losing rounds of qualifying and days of testing to rain has slowed the team's progress. "We're moving forward step by step," Brogdon said. "We're still looking for that breakthrough moment where it all comes together for us. That day is coming. We got our racing partner Steve Kent into the field with his brand-new Camaro, so things took a step in the right direction for the whole team. "We just need to get a good day where we can test a lot of our new stuff on the car so we know what works and what doesn't before we get to races, not try to figure it out as we go along." Brogdon had a best pass of 6.723 at 205.22 mph on Saturday and will start out of the No. 15 spot. He will take on Erica Enders-Stevens, who had a best lap of 6.625 seconds at 208.30 mph to qualify second. "That other engine didn't really want to launch," Brogdon said. "When you aren't getting off the line, it doesn't matter how much power you make, you aren't going to put up a good number." Eliminations for Sunday's NHRA Kansas Nationals at Heartland Park Topeka will get under way at 11 a.m. CDT.
