Stoner, Coulthard and Doohan line up for Ultimate Speed Comparison
MULGRAVE, AUSTRALIA – Feb 15, 2013: Three international superstars of the track will line up against each other at the 2013 Formula 1Ž Rolex Australian Grand Prix when Casey Stoner, Mick Doohan and David Coulthard take to the starting grid for a star-studded Ultimate Speed Comparison.
In just over one month’s time MotoGP hero Casey Stoner will take to the wheel of a Red Bull V8 Supercar, Mick Doohan a Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG road car and David Coulthard a Red Bull Racing F1 car on the spectacular Albert Park circuit.
In an outright test of speed, skill and bravery, the Ultimate Speed Comparison will see the Mercedes-Benz SL 63 AMG and Red Bull V8 Supercar given a calculated handicap start against the World Championship winning Red Bull F1 for one lap of the Albert Park track.
Five-time MotoGP World Champion Mick Doohan has his money on Coulthard for line-honors but looks forward to taking on his competitors on four wheels instead of two.
“DC has won the Australian Grand Prix twice at Albert Park and is the obvious favorite in his Red Bull F1 car but I’m sure Casey and I can take it to him next month – we will have to wait and see,” he said.
Red Bull Racing Australia team owner Roland Dane said the Ultimate Speed Comparison is set to be bigger and better than ever in 2013 with the addition of Stoner and Red Bull.
“This is an extraordinary world class line-up and we are proud to be involved,” he said.
“It’s the motorsport dream team – to have these guys at the same event is incredible but to have them racing against each other at Albert Park is something else. The fans are in for a great show,” he added.
The Ultimate Speed Comparison adds to the already thrilling schedule of support categories and displays on track at this year’s event including the MSS V8 Supercars, Mazda6 Celebrity Challenge, TOTAL Oil International Sports Car Challenge, the Porsche Carrera Cup, historic parades and more.
