VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – Feb 5, 2013: Mazda has kicked off the New Year in the best possible way enjoying its best January on record, topping the light, small, medium and SUV medium segments on its way to securing second place in the market, according to VFACTS figures released today.
Mazda sold 8,912 new cars, utilities and SUVs in January, beating its best ever January result - set in 2012 - by 433 units or 5.1 per cent. The second-best selling brand in the market, Mazda’s January performance represents a 10.4 per cent market share.
Leading the way were 3,345 of Mazda’s ever-popular Mazda3, topping the small car segment and maintaining its position as the country’s favourite car.
Mazda2 continued its charge finding 1,665 new customers - a new record for January. Mazda2 topped the light car segment and for the 60th month since October 2007 sold over 1000 cars.
Supporting its small car range, Mazda CX-5 topped the SUV medium segment with 1,625 new car sales.
Also performing strongly was All-New Mazda6. Making its Australian debut in December, All-New Mazda6, together with remnants of the superseded model, saw Mazda6 top the medium segment selling 750 sedans and wagons as it enjoyed its best sales month since September 2010.
Mazda Australia managing director, Doug Dickson said, “What a wonderful start to 2013. We are delighted to see Mazda2, Mazda3, Mazda6 and CX-5 topping their respective segments. Success in these key segments, which together cover almost 50% of the overall market, gives us confidence for another outstanding year. Once again we are indebted to Australia’s private buyers who have chosen Mazda and to our dealers and staff who have worked so hard over what for most is a holiday period.”
