SYDNEY – Feb 1, 2013: Holden has signed a three year multimillion dollar sponsorship deal with Australia’s biggest and most famous club, the Collingwood Football Club. The partnership with this Australian Football League (AFL) club will see Holden become a Platinum Partner, and designation as Head Coach and Coaches Partner and the exclusive Motor Vehicle Partner.

The announcement was made at Holden Headquarters with President Eddie McGuire, Chief Executive Gary Pert and Senior Coach Nathan Buckley who signed the sponsorship deal with Holden Chairman and Managing Director, Mike Devereux.

Mike Devereux said Holden’s sponsorship of Collingwood formed part of its strategy to significantly enhance its marketing by partnering with some of Australia’s biggest sporting brands.

“Collingwood is the most famous sporting club in the country and we’re thrilled to sponsor Nathan Buckley and his team of coaches, one of Collingwood’s highest profile properties,” Mike Devereux said.

“Our partnership with Collingwood is a natural fit. Both Holden and Collingwood are iconic Australian brands and come from strong foundations enriched in Aussie culture, supported by fans that have a real passion for these brands.

“We have big plans for the future and we’re proud to align ourselves with a club and a game that is committed to innovation and excellence.”

Welcoming the partnership, Collingwood Chief Executive Gary Pert said the sponsorship with Holden was one of the most exciting partnership decisions the club has made in recent times.

“The opportunity to combine two iconic Australian brands has endless possibilities. It’s both fitting and a compliment that Holden has chosen to get back in the game with the Collingwood.”

In 2012, Collingwood Football Club drew an average crowd of 60,000 to home matches and on average, one million people tuned in to watch Collingwood matches on television each week. Collingwood is on track to reach its goal of signing 80,000 members in 2013.

2013 will be a big year for Holden with the launch of the new VF Commodore and a significantly updated Cruze among several vehicles to be added to Holden’s product portfolio. Holden is one of three places on the planet where General Motors has the capability to design, engineer and build everything from concepts through to high-volume production vehicles.
