CAROL STREAM, IL--January 15, 2013: Car manufacturers Audi of America, Cadillac, Chevrolet, Chrysler Group, Ford Motor Co., and Mercedes-Benz are here to let consumers know that the future has arrived, according to Connected World magazine. The publication today announced the winners of its 2013 Connected Car of the Year awards.

“This transformation relates to the harnessing of data through the power of connectivity, and it will be the chassis on which the industry as a whole drives into the future.”

These days, Americans are spending more time with two activities--driving and staying connected. With that in mind, consumers are increasing their demand for automakers to stay ahead of the curve when it comes to technology implementation. Simply, they want to stay connected while in their vehicle.

"The introduction of the Model T by Henry Ford in 1908 was a moment that transformed transportation. Today, we are at the beginning of the next big automotive revolutionâ--the connected car," says Peggy Smedley, editorial director, Connected World magazine. "This transformation relates to the harnessing of data through the power of connectivity, and it will be the chassis on which the industry as a whole drives into the future."

Balancing the want for in-vehicle connectivity, with the need for driver safety has fallen to those companies pushing out the connected cars. And with systems like the Audi connect, CUE, MyLink, Uconnect Access, SYNC, and mbrace2, it's plain to see why the 2013 winners of Connected World's Connected Car of the Year awards have found success.

The Connected Car of the Year awards honor vehicles with technology that strike the right balance of safety, convenience, and infotainment. Chosen by the editorial team at Connected World magazine, the winners for 2013 were named in the categories of small, midsize, luxury, ultra-luxury, truck, and green.

The 2013 Connected Car of the Year winners are:

Chevy Cruze (Small)
Cadillac ATS (Midsize)
Audi S7 (Luxury)
Mercedes-Benz SL550 (Ultra-Luxury)
Ram 1500 (Truck)
Ford Fusion Energi Plug-In Hybrid (Green)

"Roadway safety is a major concern today, but there is an answer. From the newest generation of in-vehicle systems that include services like lane-departure sensing or a warning if a car is in your blind spot, to the eventual implementation of V2V (vehicle-to-vehicle) and V2I (vehicle-to-infrastructure) connectivity, these connected cars can increase our chances of safe travels," says Mike Carrozzo, chief editor, Connected World magazine.
