SYDNEY – Dec 18, 2012: Volkswagen’s future star-technicians have been recognised in the annual graduation ceremony of the Volkswagen Modern Apprenticeship Programme at Sydney’s Luna Park recently, which this year saw 20 apprentices successfully complete the programme.

The highlight of the evening was the announcement of the Apprentice of the Year 2012 for 1st, 2nd and 3rd year groups. Based on outstanding initiative and performance, the awards reflect the high calibre of technical apprentices coming up through the ranks:

  • 1st year Volkswagen Apprentice of the Year, Lara Gibson (Wodonga Prestige, Wodonga Prestige VIC)
  • 2nd year Volkswagen Apprentice of the Year, Duncan Logan (West Orange Motors, NSW)
  • 3rd year Apprentice of the Year, Ben Muller (Lennock Volkswagen, ACT)

Kieren Gradidge, Technical Training Manager, elaborates on the success of this well-managed apprenticeship programme: “Since the introduction of the programme we have seen an increase in the skill-sets applied within Volkswagen technicians. The Volkswagen Modern Apprenticeship Programme is a major contributing factor, particularly given the growth of the brand and the growth of the dealer network.

“Our apprentices are being trained to use 100 per cent Volkswagen technology, ensuring we will continually build on our service standards in the industry. The achievements of our 2012 Apprentices of the Year highlight the raw talent, passion and enthusiasm among this group of young Volkswagen recruits directing them towards becoming specialists within the Volkswagen brand for the long term.”

The Volkswagen Modern Apprenticeship Programme was established in early 2009 designed to help apprentices to keep pace with advancing technologies as well as provide the knowledge to become fully qualified Volkswagen Service Technicians.

The apprenticeship consists of full-time employment at a Volkswagen dealer as well as tuition in Volkswagen Group Australia’s state-of-the art training facility in Chullora, NSW.

The apprenticeship program awards successful graduates with the Certificate III in Automotive Mechanical Technology.
