The Volkswagen Big Red Car Finds a New Home

BOTANY, AUSTRALIA – Dec 18, 2012: It’s the end of the road but not the journey as the Volkswagen Big Red Car auction closes, with the keys ready to be handed over to a proud new owner.

After 10 days of intense bidding the Volkswagen Big Red Car auction closed at 9pm on Monday 17th December with 61 bids made and $35,700 raised for SIDS and Kids.

Volkswagen is proud to have helped raise the money for a great cause, and to hand the keys over to a lucky new owner of the famous skivvy red Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet and guardian of a piece of Wiggles history.

Volkswagen has donated all proceeds from the auction to SIDS and Kids, a charity The Wiggles have supported for the last 21 years.

Anke Koeckler, Managing Director, Volkswagen Group Australia commented, “We are very pleased with the amount raised by the Volkswagen Big Red Car auction. The $35,700 will all go to SIDS and Kids to be used in the development of an Android version of the Safe Sleeping Education app and the conversion of the app into additional languages.”

Anthony Field, the Blue Wiggle, is excited for the adventures ahead for the Volkswagen Big Red Car.

Greg, Murray, Jeff and I have shared many happy times in the Volkswagen Big Red Car and we’re really pleased to see it will continue life in a safe pair of hands and in its rightful home, Australia.
