SYDNEY – Dec 4, 2012: Jeep Australia has announced sponsorship of the Melbourne Stars in the Twenty20 Big Bash Cricket Series. The competition, which has become a summer entertainment spectacle, will see international cricket stars playing alongside Australia’s best home grown talent during the Christmas and New Year period.

The King of Spin, Shane Warne, will captain the star studded side which includes Sri Lankan superstar Lasith Malinga, local legend and one of the best T20 cricketers in the world, David Hussey, and pocket rocket Brad Hodge, just to name a few.

Sam Tabart, Director of Marketing at Fiat Chrysler Group, confirmed the automotive sponsorship as an exciting addition to the Jeep sports sponsorship portfolio.

“We’ve aligned the Jeep brand with some of the nation’s leading sporting events, which includes sponsorship of the Victorian Polo Club, major sponsorship of the Richmond Football Club and sponsorship of Ben Wilson Surf, and it’s exciting that we can now include the Melbourne Stars in the lineup”, said Tabart.

“The T20 series embraces the Jeep mantra, “Don’t Hold Back,” as the game requires more speed, strength and agility from the players, making it a perfect partnership for Jeep.

Since its inception in England in 2003, T20 has spread around the cricket world as it matches the timespan of other popular team sports, creating a lively form of the game for spectators. The team in green, which has been supplied with a fleet of Jeeps, will open the season this Friday as they take on the Renegades at Etihad Stadium.

The Jeep brand is part of the successful Fiat Chrysler Australia group, which imports and markets a wide range of vehicles in the Australian market, including the Fiat, Fiat Commercial, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Abarth, SRT and Mopar brands
