Silver Spring's open, IPv6-based networking platform has connected more than 13 million homes and businesses worldwide and enables utilities of all sizes and across all geographies to deploy the broadest array of smart grid applications atop a common platform. The keynote can be viewed in its entirety at Silver Spring Network.

“With the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform, we are helping our global utility customers deploy multiple applications atop their standards-based smart grid network, unlocking even more value from their infrastructure modernization investments.”

"The market has tipped. In just 6 years the industry has moved beyond science projects and small pilots to proven, industrial-scale deployments that are delivering clear and demonstrable benefits to consumers and utilities alike," said Gadre. "With the Silver Spring Smart Energy Platform, we are helping our global utility customers deploy multiple applications atop their standards-based smart grid network, unlocking even more value from their infrastructure modernization investments."

During the keynote presentation, "Past the Tipping Point: Beyond the Smart Meter," Gadre described five grid modernization initiatives utilities can implement immediately. These include leveraging smart grid for higher reliability through faster and less expensive service restoration in the event of outages; precision Demand Response for peak load reduction and the empowerment of end-consumers to monitor and manage their power consumption; utilizing a single, territory-wide canopy network to integrate multiple AMI and water programs; integrating renewable energy sources and bringing online more electric vehicles; and improving operational efficiency and grid performance through advanced analytics and insights.

Working in partnership with CitiPower & Powercor Australia, Jemena Electricity Networks Limited, and United Energy, Silver Spring Networks has connected more than 1.2 million homes and business to the smart grid in Victoria, Australia for the state's Advanced Metering Infrastructure program. In New Zealand, Silver Spring was recently selected by Unison to deliver the standards-based networking platform underpinning its innovative smart grid strategy. WEL Networks has also selected Silver Spring for an innovative smart grid deployment in the Waikato region of New Zealand.

The Smart Utilities Australia & New Zealand conference, attended by electricity industry retailers, distributors and water utilities, is one of the largest forums for discussing water and electricity utility developments and innovation in the Australia and New Zealand region.
