Sports Cars to Shine in Shannons Spring Sale

SYDNEY – Oct 18, 2012: Classic sports cars from Britain, Germany, France and the United States will have their day in the sun at Shannons Sydney Spring Classic Auction to be staged this coming Monday, October 22.

From Britain, the drop-top vehicles on offer range from an impressive Finch & Hocking replica of a 1937 Jaguar SS100 (guiding range $85,000-$100,000) to a little-used and very original 1952 MG TD Roadster that has been in the hands of the same owner for the past 35 years ($20,000-$25,000), a fully-restored 1969 MG Midget Mk III Roadster $14,000-$18,000) and a right hand drive 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk I V8 convertible that was the subject of a bare metal rebuild in 2003 ($48,000-$56,000).

The Germans are represented by three desirable Mercedes-Benz models –a rare, left hand drive, two-door 1951 220A Cabriolet that has led a sheltered life since it was recently restored ($90,000-$120,000), a beautiful 1966 230SL ‘Pagoda Roof’ roadster that has covered a documented 34,000 mile since delivered new in the UK ($55,000-$70,000) and a well-maintained 1988 300SL Convertible also fitted with both hard and soft tops imported from Hong Kong by the vendor in 2004 ($12,000-$16,000).

From France comes the oldest vehicle in the auction – a beautiful 1922 Citroen B2 Tourer in ready-to-enjoy condition ($16,000-$22,000) while from the other end of the universe there is a left hand drive 1960 Chevrolet Impala Convertible being offered with no reserve ($20,000-$28,000).

The Shannons Spring sale also includes a number of interesting items of automobilia, including a 23-piece collection of early bonnet mascots ($300-$500), a collection of model cars ($300-$500) and a 1920s ‘Lines Bros’ pedal car ($400-$800).

Amongst the number plates on offer, the very rare NSW number ‘50’ for motorcycles is expected to attract bids in the $42,000-$52,000 range, while the three digit black and white car plate ‘284’ is expected to sell for $72,000-$82,000.

All auction lots will be available for inspection this weekend at Shannons Sydney showroom, 65 Reserve Road, St.Leonards, from 9am-5pm Saturday and 10am-4pm Sunday.
