CLEVELAND--Stepmber 14, 2012: Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced today it has been ranked as a leader on the Carbon Disclosure Project's (CDP) 2012 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index and 2012 Carbon Performance Leadership Index. Eaton is one of only 11 S&P 500 companies to earn leadership status on both indexes in this year's CDP ranking.

“Companies that make the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index have demonstrated strong internal data management practices for the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. They are also giving clear consideration to the business issues related to climate change and their exposure to climate-related risks and opportunities.”

This is the first time Eaton is featured in the Carbon Performance Leadership Index, an achievement granted to only 15 companies and the fourth time Eaton has been named to the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index.

"Eaton's achievement in the CDP ratings is a clear indication of the progress we are making to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, effectively manage energy, and publicly disclose our successes and challenges," said Harold Jones, senior vice president of Environment, Health and Safety. "Eaton's CDP performance is also good for business, demonstrating our commitment as a power management company to helping customers improve their carbon footprint."

Eaton operations around the world adhere to one set of standards for policies, such as gas emissions, energy and water consumption and waste treatment, and are dedicated to helping customers achieve LEED certification with the company's energy-efficient products and technologies.

The Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index is a key component of CDP's annual S&P 500 report, and highlights the constituent companies within the S&P 500 index which have displayed a strong approach to information disclosure regarding climate change. Companies are scored on their climate change disclosure and high scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of climate change related issues affecting the company.

Paul Simpson, chief executive officer of CDP, said, "Companies that make the Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index have demonstrated strong internal data management practices for the measurement of greenhouse gas emissions and energy use. They are also giving clear consideration to the business issues related to climate change and their exposure to climate-related risks and opportunities."
