3.6-litre Pentastar Engine now Added to Jeep Grand Cherokee Luxury Overland
The Fiat Chrysler group has announced the availability of the acclaimed 3.6-litre Pentastar engine in the Jeep Grand Cherokee luxury Overland variant.
VICTORIA, AUSTRALIA – Sept 12, 2012: Originally available with either the powerful 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engine, or the economical 3.0-litre diesel engine, the addition of the world-renowned 3.6-litre petrol Pentastar V6 engine means the Jeep Grand Cherokee luxury Overland offers even more amazing value than ever before.
Priced at just $65,000*, the Grand Cherokee Overland 3.6-litre offers all the craftsmanship, luxury and technology found on the other Overland prestige models, with real wood and leather interior appointments, standard dual pane panoramic sun roof and power liftgate, and a large 16.5 cm touchscreen with GPS navigation.
Clyde Campbell, managing director of the Fiat Chrysler Australia group, said the availability of the Pentastar engine in the Grand Cherokee Overland variant was sure to appeal to luxury SUV buyers.
“We listened to our customers, and worked very hard to bring this variant to Australia. We know it is going to be a real crowd pleaser,” Campbell said.
“At $65,000, it brings all the appointments expected on prestige vehicles well within the reach of a much larger audience.”
Technology abounds in the Jeep Grand Cherokee, with standard Quadra-lift air suspension system, Jeep Selec-Terrain system featuring five terrain settings to match conditions, hill descent control and hill start assist, and the acclaimed Quadra-Trac II 4x4 system**.
Safety systems, usually only found on much more expensive vehicles, include forward collision warning, blind spot monitoring, cross path detection, adaptive cruise control, rear view camera, ESC with Brake Assist, All-speed Traction Control, Electronic Roll Mitigation, Rain Brake support, Ready Alert braking and Trailer Sway Control.
The 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine features dual double overhead camshafts (DOHC) and a high-pressure die-cast aluminium cylinder block in a 60-degree configuration. It features Quad Variable-valve Timing (VVT) and delivers 210 kW of power at 6,350 rpm and 347 Nm of torque at 4,300 rpm. Fuel consumption is an efficient 11.0 litres per 100 kilometres on a combined cycle and the 3.6-litre Pentastar has the capability to run smoothly on 91 octane or E85 fuel. This engine has won world-wide acclaim, recognized by Ward’s Automotive in their “Ten Best Engines” for 2012.
It is coupled with the proven W5A580 five-speed automatic transmission that delivers smooth shifts and optimum fuel consumption. The five-speed W5A580 transmission includes adaptive electronic control or Electronic Range Select (ERS) driver-interactive manual control and an electronically modulated torque converter clutch.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland with Pentastar V6 engine offers trailer tow capability of up to 2,268kg.
