Isuzu Makes Its Mark With Makro
LONDON – Sept 5, 2012: One of a pair of newly acquired Isuzu Forward N75.190 7.5t rigids, currently working for wholesale cash and carry company Makro, recently took part in the annual historic ‘Cart Marking’ ceremony in the City of London. Cart Marking is a multi-vehicle parade and vehicle drive past, in the presence of the Rt Hon Mayor of London, the Sheriff of London and other city officers.
Although Makro has operated a sizeable number of Isuzu trucks over the past couple of years, the latest specification Isuzu featured at the ceremony was one from a recent order for two identical vehicles. Both of the newly acquired trucks have been fitted with RVL refrigerated bodies and are operating on a Makro Foodservice contract from Acton, London, including delivering produce into the Olympic Village during the recent London 2012 Olympics and current Paralympics.
According to Keith Child, marketing director at Isuzu Truck UK, “The Cart Marking ceremony is a prestigious annual event within the City of London calendar and Isuzu Truck has played an active role in this event for many years now, always featuring a latest specification Isuzu that will operate within the London area.”
This particular Isuzu 7.5 t rigid featured Isuzu's Euro 5, four-cylinder turbocharged and intercooled diesel engine, producing 190 brake horsepower, matched to Isuzu's popular Easyshift automated gearbox. The pair of new Isuzus operating for Makro has been supplied and will be maintained by leading commercial vehicle contract hire and fleet management company VMS (Fleet Management) Ltd to DHL to satisfy this Makro foodservice contract.
The Cart Marking ceremony at the Guildhall in London is a time-honoured tradition, maintained by the worshipful company of Carmen. Selected vehicles, representing the history of transport, are branded with a red-hot iron on a wooden plate: also carrying a unique vehicle number and the Carmen Arms. The ceremony acts as a reminder of centuries of service by transport organisations to the City of London.
