Toyota Motor Manufacturing Russia (TMMR) today added a second shift to increase production of the successful Toyota Camry model.

The decision was made in April earlier this year and follows the outstanding sales results and high evaluation of the Camry sedan in the Russian market. Since the announcement 600 new people have been hired and trained in accordance with practices of Toyota manufacturing companies globally. New employees were trained in fundamental skills required for car manufacturing, essential quality principles of the Toyota Production System and enjoyed operating experience at several working places.

Commenting on the first day of the two-shift operations, TMMR President Yoshinori Matsunaga said: “Today is a very remarkable day for our company. This second shift launch is the most significant production ramp up at TMMR since the start of production at the St. Petersburg plant. Today we see even brighter opportunities for our Camry among Russian customers and are happy to have more people in our team to keep up with customers’ demand”.

In February of this year, TMMR announced plans to add stamping and resin-moulding processes to its production during 2014. These expansion plans aim to further promote localisation in Russia, a market promising continued sustained growth.

Based on Toyota founding philosophy of contributing to society through the manufacture of automobiles, TMMR plans to carry out business that contributes to the development of Russia's economy and its automotive industry. TMMR will also steadily work to provide high quality vehicles that meet Russian market and consumer needs.
