BUFFALO, NY--August 23, 2012: Local and state officials, members of the business community and representatives from civic and community groups all turned out yesterday to join GEICO"s 2,400 associates at an event to celebrate the Getzville, N.Y. service center selling its millionth policy.

“It"s hard to imagine the economic landscape of Western New York without GEICO playing a major role”

New York State Assemblyman Raymond Walter and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz joined Seth Ingall, regional vice president of GEICO"s Buffalo service center, in kicking off the event. Town of Amherst Councilman Steven Sanders was also on hand to issue a proclamation in support of GEICO for its service to the community.

Assemblyman Walter said that ever since GEICO announced in 2003 that it was opening an office in Getzville, the company has become a driving force in the community. "It"s hard to imagine the economic landscape of Western New York without GEICO playing a major role," Walter said. "GEICO"s story is a story of economic success here in Western New York and represents a positive relationship between the company, our economy, our families and businesses that trust and invest in our community."

Erie County Executive Poloncarz noted that GEICO"s continued expansion of its associate base in the office was an investment in the community, and that the office adding its millionth policy proves it has been a true success story. "I think we can all look at today as proof that it has been a very successful venture, not only today, but for the future of Erie County, Niagara County and Western New York," he said. "We"re proud that GEICO is here working hard to ensure that we have not only a future for the employees of GEICO, but for all of this community."
