"The NAACP applauds AT&T's efforts to work to eliminate a disturbing and dangerous trend -- texting while driving.

With today's announcement of September 19th's "No Text On Board Pledge Day," when all Americans will be asked to pledge to not text and drive, AT&T is making a critical step to ensure the safety of current and future generations. It is our hope that this campaign will help to change the thought process of our nation's drivers, and increase the wellbeing of our communities.

The NAACP is glad to see efforts made on behalf of citizens to promote safety and security, and protect those in all communities. The NAACP looks forward to seeing the progress of AT&T's commitment and movement in this space, and encourages its members to take the pledge at www.itcanwait.comĀ and promise to not text and drive."

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization.
