BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – June 19, 2012: The Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of technologies and services, marked an important milestone in the construction of its new headquarters in Budapest with a topping-out ceremony on June 14, 2012. The total size of the new headquarters with two main buildings will be almost 32,000 square meters. “Bosch is constantly extending its business operations in Hungary. Budapest has become an important strategic location for Bosch’s global activities”, said Javier González Pareja, representative of the Bosch Group in Hungary in his welcome speech. As this project is making rapid progress, the first building will be completed in spring 2013. The second phase starts this year and is set for completion in 2015.

The company sees the new location as its commitment to the region. “With this ambitious investment project we will further strengthen our position in the region and the Hungarian capital with its good geographical location. Furthermore we have a solid base to build on, as Hungarian engineers – due to their skills, creativity and attitude – are recognized and appreciated all over Europe”, said Javier González Pareja.

Bosch Engineering Center to move to new headquarters

The new complex will house the Bosch Engineering Center Budapest, which is the innovation base for Bosch automotive technology developments. It operates at present with a workforce of 700 engineers in a rented building on Gyömrői út. Bosch expects a further growing workforce for its Hungarian Engineering center: “Keeping pace with the dynamic growth of the innovation center, the workforce may exceed 800 by Page 2 of 2 the end of this year”, said Javier González Pareja. The new headquarters will also house several other operations, including the commercial and administration departments for the automotive aftermarket and power tools divisions, and drive and control technologies from Bosch Rexroth.

Topping out ceremony

The “topping out” ceremony held at the new location in Kőbánya follows an ancient tradition. When the walls of a new building reach the height of the roof structure, the owner of the building together with all the workers on the job celebrate this milestone in the construction of the building. The participants, construction workers and Bosch employees at the ceremony tied ribbons to a tree that was then taken by a crane up to the top level of the building.
