CHICAGO--June 6, 2012: According to electronic device industry expert Peggy Smedley, the technology exists to eliminate distracted driving and keep everyone safe and connected behind the wheel. Some of that very technology will be on exhibit at the annual Connected World Conference, coming to the Chicagoland area June 11-13. The Distracted Driver pavilion is just one of the wow-factor exhibits on display for the public to explore. The annual conference is considered the CES for the device space, with automobiles taking center stage as our most sophisticated out-of-home connected experience.

"In 2009 more than 5,000 people were killed because of distracted driving. I recently spoke with Ray LaHood who called distracted driving an epidemic because everyone has a cellphone or texting device. We're encouraging the public to come out and see all the new devices that automakers are putting into cars to deal with this issue," says Peggy Smedley, editorial director/publisher of Connected World magazine. Attendees will be able to sign a safe driving pledge.

Here's a peek at just some of the new technologies on exhibit at this show:

  • Chrysler 300 with Uconnect
  • Audi A8 with Audi connect
  • Cadillac XTS
  • Chevy Volt
  • Nissan Leaf
  • Porsche Carrera
  • A connected gift-card kiosk
  • Realtime emergency response equipment

The opening night of the show, June 11, features a Gadget Giveaway party, with more than $10,000 in new devices on display that will be given away to attendees. Devices include the new iPad from Apple, Nike+ SportWatch GPS, BlackBerry PlayBook, Samsung Galaxy Tab, TomTom GO LIVE 2535 M, a Kodak Office Hero Wi-Fi printer, digital frame from CEIVA, fitness devices from BodyMedia and Fitbit, cellular boosters from Wilson Electronics, a home thermostat that learns your patterns from Nest, a personal tracking device from Bushnell, a connected video camera for outdoor extremists from ContourGPS, and the NeoTV from NETGEAR that streams content to your television, among many others.

The Gadget Giveaway Opening Night Party will be held June 11, 2012 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
