Plus X Awards: Opel Named 2012 Most Innovative Automotive Brand

SYDNEY – May 16, 2012: Opel has taken out eight categories to be named the Most Innovative Automotive Brand at the 2012 Plus X Awards held in Cologne, Germany.

The Plus X awards are given for new and innovative technologies, extraordinary design and intelligent, easy to use operating systems. Criteria for the awards include ergonomic and environment characteristics along with the quality of materials and manufacturing of the products all contributing to sustainable products with long lasting value.

Present at the awards, Opel’s executive director of Sales, Marketing and Aftersales at Adam Opel AG, Imelda Labbe spoke of the honour at receiving the award for the second time.

“The fact Opel has been awarded for the second time as the most innovative automotive brand fills me with great pride and is reward for the efforts from the whole Opel team over recent years. The 2012 award reaffirms how important it is that we follow this path and continue to develop and advance our products for our customers,” said Labbe

Opel led the automotive brands at the award with eight awards across the Opel model line-up. Models recognised included the new Astra GTC impressing in the design category and the versatile Zafira awarded for its functionality and advanced design.

The most recent model to join the global Opel line-up the Mokka, a compact SUV, rounded out the awards for Opel scoring well in the areas of functionality, innovation and design.

Opel will launch in Australia from September with the initial launch model line-up including the Corsa three and five-door variants, the Astra five-door and Tourer, Insignia Sedan and Tourer and the hero model the Astra GTC coupe.

With a jury comprising more than 130 members from 32 countries and a variety of industries, the Plus X Award is the world’s largest competition for technological, sport and lifestyle products.

The competition is being conducted for the ninth time in 2012. Opel has previously been awarded the Most Innovative Automotive brand at the 2010 awards.
