Volt Banks Another Victory...
LUTON, UNITED KINGDOM - may 10, 2012: It may have already won more awards across the world than any other new car, but that hasn’t stopped the Chevrolet Volt from adding to its collection of silverware.
The new Extended-Range electric model took the prize for Best Eco Car, shared with its Vauxhall Ampera sister car, awarded by the UK publication Diesel Car. The title incorporates a sub-publication, EcoCar, aimed at customers looking to purchase alternative fuelled vehicles.
Diesel Car editor Ian Robertson said: “Just once in a while, history is made with a new design of car. The Chevrolet Volt and its sister model, the Ampera, have opened up a world of new possibility for electric motoring, extending it to a far wider range of people than the distance limitations of a purely electric car allow.
“This is the car that makes greener motoring much more widely accessible: an electric vehicle without the angst, an environmentally considerate car with range practicality. Praise be for the brave new world of range extenders – here at last is an EV that is so much more than mere city commuter. It’s a sure-fire winner.”
This latest accolade adds further to the Volt’s haul of awards – already, it has become the most singularly awarded car in history, and the only model ever to win Car of the Year on both sides of the Atlantic, winning the US title in 2011 and the European COTY award in 2012.
UK deliveries of the Volt have just commenced, after the model’s April launch. It is priced at £29,995 after the government’s Low Carbon vehicle grant of £5,000 is subtracted from the £34,995 list price.
