NHRA Div 3 - Team JEGS / Pre-race Notes

Indianapolis, Apr. 24, 2012: There will be four JEGS Mail Order cars entered in this weekends event including Mike Coughlin (Top Sportsman), Troy Coughlin Jr. (Top Dragster and Super Comp), and Samantha Coughlin (Super Comp).

Collectively, the Coughlin family has appeared in 11 final rounds at the Indianapolis Lucas Oil Series event, and has garnered nine wins.

All told, the Coughlin family has won 52 Lucas Oil Series races in 73 final round appearances.

Mike Coughlin is the defending event champion in the Top Sportsman class. In 2011, he drove his JEGS.com Cobalt to a final round victory over Billy Thoman of Mt. Washington, Ky.

In 2008, John and Mike Coughlin both found the winner’s circle at Lucas Oil Raceway as John claimed the Super Stock title and Mike won in Top Sportsman.

The Coughlin family has also won the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Raceway eight times. In addition to Jeg’s four Pro Stock wins, his brother, Troy, won the Super Gas title in 1991 and brother Mike collected two wins in the Pro Stock Truck class in 1999 and 2001 and T.J. claimed the Super Comp title in 2010. In addition, John Coughlin won the U.S. Nationals as a car owner in 2005 when Brad Plourd drove his JEGS Mail Order dragster to the Super Comp title.

Jeg Coughlin Sr., Jeg Coughlin Jr., and John Coughlin have each won four North Central Division season championships while Mike Coughlin has two for a total of 14.

The Coughlin’s have won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events in nine different classes, Top Fuel, Pro Comp, Super Eliminator, Comp, Super Stock, Super Comp, Super Gas, Top Dragster, and Top Sportsman.

The Coughlin’s have won Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series events at 17 different tracks across North America including races in six of NHRA’s seven geographic divisions. The have not won in Division 6, the Pacific Northwest.

Family patriarch Jeg Coughlin Sr. won his first Lucas Oil Series event when he claimed the Super Eliminator title at Windsor Dragway in Windsor, Ontario in 1969.

Mike Coughlin is currently ranked second in a heated battle to make the JEGS Allstars team in Joliet. He is currently just 22 points behind Top Sportsman leader Donald Horne..
