TULLAMARINE, AUSTRALIA – March 1, 2012: Honda Australia is sponsoring exciting ‘Rally Live’ technology, new to the 2012 Bosch ARC.

This technology heralds a new era of rallying. ‘Rally Live’ will see every car fitted with GPS-based transponder units to track where they are on each stage, give warning signals when approaching other vehicles and offer spectators the chance to view stage times in real-time and see what is happening on each stage. As all timing will be based on the technology, results will be more accurate and instantaneous.

“Honda is proud of its association with rallying and we are excited to support Rally Live. This new technology will make rallying safer for competitors and more engaging for spectators,” said Director and General Manager of Sales and Marketing, Stephen Collins.

The transponder units will be mapped to the stages of each round, giving competitors the ability to instantly assess how they have gone and locate other cars to avoid collision. The ability to track each vehicle is particularly useful when cars go off track, improving the safety of the sport.

Safety was a large contributing factor to Honda’s involvement with ‘Rally Live’. In the event of a collision or car roll the transponder will send an emergency signal back to its base. One press of a button will also send out a help-signal in the event of an emergency.

The Rally Live website will reach a wider audience, enabling a following which is not reliant on attending each stage. As the championship takes place Australia-wide, Rally Live gives enthusiasts the chance to follow each stage from anywhere in Australia.

Honda are proud to bring the technology which is used in Formula 1 and touring cars to the ARC, improving safety conditions for those involved and expanding spectator interest.
