MELBOURNE – Feb 17, 2012: A lovely Australian-delivered Aston Martin DB7 is going under the hammer with no reserve at Shannons upcoming Melbourne Autumn Classic Auction on March 5.

Regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful cars when it debuted at the 1993 Geneva Salon, the Ian Callum-designed DB7 with its supercharged 3239cc DOHC in-line six-cylinder engine was the company’s spiritual successor to the DB4 coupe of the 1960s and was immediately embraced by enthusiasts.

However Astons since the company’s first production model in 1922 have always been in limited numbers and just 1,567 six-cylinder DB7s were built before its DB9 successor arrived in late 2003.

Finished in the traditional English hue of British Racing Green with Cream Connolly leather trim, the 1996-model DB7 being auctioned was ordered new in Melbourne by a prominent local businessman.

Fitted with the optional four-speed automatic transmission, it is now in the hands of its third owner, with its odometer showing just over 101,000km.

It retains its Service History/Owners Handbook and tools and its personalised numberplates ‘AML7’ are included in the sale.

According to Shannons National Auction Manager Christophe Boribon, the DB7 is a future classic.

“These were spectacularly beautiful cars in their day and their styling has stood the test of time,” he said, estimating that the Aston will sell in the $55,000-$70,000 range.

“The ‘no reserve’ system has achieved excellent results in the past and is a good way of drawing potential buyers into the market fort this type of vehicle.”

Other rare and interesting British and European vehicles in the March 5 Melbourne auction include a 1989 Renault Alpine GTA V6 Coupe (one of 212 right hand drive cars built – $18,000-$24,000), an even-rarer fibreglass-bodied and Triumph TR3-engined 1959 Peerless GT Coupe ($16,000-$22,000), a six-cylinder 1968 MG C GT Coupe ($14,000-$18,000) and a 1967 Citroen DS21 Sedan being offered with no reserve ($10,000-$15,000).
