Strong Sales See Volvo Join a New Club

SYDNEY – Jan 9, 2012: Volvo Car Australia has joined the elusive ‘5,000 Club’ retailing 5,272 cars in 2011 representing an increase of 6.6 percent over its 2010 figures.
Volvo’s result was 326 units ahead of the 4,945 it retailed in 2010 – bucking the overall market trend, which was down by 2.6 percent – despite having limited stock in the third quarter.
Volvo’s best month on record since becoming an importer in Australia was June 2011 with 638 vehicles retailed. This result narrowly beat the previous record of 620 retails in June 2009.
The XC60 was once again Volvo's top performer with 1,575 retails.
Australia’s long running love affair with the XC90 made it the top selling seven-seat luxury SUV for the fifth consecutive year with 1,348 retails in 2011 – up 142 retails on 2010.
Rounding out the top three performers for Volvo was the S60 sedan, with 810 retails following the introduction of the T4 and D3 variants.
A consistent performance by the C30 (412 units) followed by the new Volvo V60 (361) also contributed to Volvo's successful year.
Volvo’s growth has been attributed to a versatile and impressive product line-up, which is attracting customers from other brands.
“Volvo’s ongoing sales success is the result of a strong product line-up that offers the right mix of style, quality and safety combined with extremely sharp pricing across the range,” said Matt Braid, managing director, Volvo Car Australia.
"There is evidence to suggest that these elements of vehicle ownership resonate with buyers, which are moving to Volvo as a result," said Mr Braid.
In 2012, Volvo Car Australia will aim to build on its sales success with the full range of S60 and V60 models on sale, strengthening Volvo’s product offering.
