Team Hyundai Scores Winning Goals for UNICEF
SYDNEY – Nov 2, 2011: The Hyundai Motor Company Australia six-a-side football team has swapped its business shoes for football boots to take out the 2011 UNICEF Kick for Kids corporate challenge.
Kick for Kids is an annual charity tournament which helps raise much needed funds for UNICEF programs around the globe. The mixed corporate teams must field two women at all times during play, and are required to raise $5000 to enter the competition. The 2011 roster saw 20 teams take part, representing companies including Volkswagen, Audi, Qantas, Macquarie Bank, Coles and Powerade.
The 2011 Kick for Kids corporate tournament raised over $95,000 to help fund vital UNICEF projects.
The Hyundai team played the Audi and Volkswagen teams to make it through to the quarter-finals, where they faced four times winners of the event, Roocrew Qantas, to see the team progress to the semi-finals of the tournament. Now all that stood between Hyundai and the final was grocery giant Coles. The Hyundai team went through to face last year’s winners, the renamed Nine Entertainment team (formally PBL Media) in the final.
In a nail biting final which saw the defending champs come back late in the second half with a spirited challenge, Hyundai slipped into overdrive and took the tournament with a thrilling 3-2 victory over Nine Entertainment.
Ken Done, UNICEF ambassador and renowned Australian artist, designed the iconic soccer ball trophy which now sits proudly at Hyundai’s head office in Sydney.
“Hyundai Motor Company Australia has a strong affiliation with football in Australia, both at grassroots and professional levels,” said Oliver Mann, Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s Director of Marketing. “As a company we actively engage in a number of Corporate Social Responsibility programs and the 2011 UNICEF Kick for Kids tournament allowed us to combine passion and social responsibility, proving to be a winning combination.”
