Green Motorsports - Mayor Of London Boris Johnson Checks Out All-Electric Lightning GT Supercar

London, Oct. 27, 2011: Specialist energy, climate change and environmental consultancy AEA is delighted to announce that one of the EEMS Accelerate (www.eemsaccelerate.co.uk) consortium vehicles currently undertaking 12 months of road trials as part of the Technology Strategy Board's £25 million Ultra Low Carbon Demonstrator Programme has been inspected by the Mayor of London, Boris Johnson.

Built by the Lightning Car Company, the stunning all-electric supercar was on display at Kingston University's Green Growth Bootcamp on Thursday 13 October, where it was viewed by the Mayor alongside Lightning Car Company Chairman Iain Sanderson, who had been a guest speaker at the event. The Mayor is championing the use of electric vehicles in London through his Source London (www.sourcelondon.net) charge point network and membership scheme. His ambition is to support Londoners to opt for one of the growing range of electric vehicles coming to market and see 100,000 electric vehicles on the streets of London as soon as possible. This is to bolster his vision of cleaning London's air to improve health and quality of life. By 2013, Source London will total at least 1,300 charge points, more than the number of petrol stations currently in London, ensuring that the infrastructure is in place for significantly more people and businesses to buy an electric vehicle. Electric drivers also receive a 100 per cent discount off the capital's congestion charge.

Iain Sanderson commented: "It was a pleasure to introduce Mr Johnson to the car and to discuss the efforts being made by the Technology Strategy Board and the EEMS Accelerate programme to carry out electric vehicle road trials and to raise the profile of these vehicles within the general public."

The recent event was one of several appearances the Lightning GT has made this summer, including the Goodwood Festival of Speed and Ecovelocity Low Carbon Motor Festival, alongside fellow consortium partners Delta Motorsport, Ecotricity and Westfield Sportscars.

The Lightning GT - as well as two Delta E-4 Coupes and Ecotricity's Nemesis - are currently preparing for their next major public appearance at the RAC Future Car Challenge. Scheduled to run from Brighton to London on 5 November, this event is also supported by the Mayor. The Mayor is delivering cleaner air for London and his air quality strategy includes a range of measures to tackle pollution from transport, including cars, buses, vans and lorries, as well as taxis and PHV vehicles.
