HONG KONG--October 11, 2011: Johnson Electric today announced an actuator product line for automotive grill shutters. The Saia-burgess GS branded product line offers the industry's widest speed and torque range in a compact package. The actuator lineup aligns with the design requirements of automatic grill shutters in a range of vehicles. The Saia-Burgess GS actuators are designed to operate in all weather conditions with a unique power boost mode to overcome the effects of mud and ice build-up.

“Active grill shutters also improve the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle”

The Saia-burgess GS grill shutter operates with high torque, high reliability and a low power budget. A control interface allows for customized torque and speed configurations for ease of integration with the different motion requirements of large or small grill shutters. The actuator product line provides diagnostic information that will support future on board diagnostic standards. The Saia-burgess GS actuators support LIN BUS, PWM or simple on-off communication protocols.

"Saia-burgess shutter actuators have a small power budget since zero current is required to hold the shutter in position," said Jim Dick, Johnson Electric's senior vice president of Strategic Marketing. "Active grill shutters also improve the aerodynamic performance of the vehicle," he added.
