Success On A Plate - Nissan Has Recipe For September Sales
MAPLE CROSS, UNITED KINGDOM – Oct 7, 2011: Figures just released by The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show that Nissan continued to buck the downward trend in registrations with a 17.8% increase in passenger sales compared to the same month last year. The overall market was down by 0.8% in the same period.
The increase gave Nissan an overall market share of 5.6% in a month which is traditionally one of the big ‘peaks’ in the car sales calendar due to the registration plate change. Even more impressive was the share of the retail market, where the company took 6.9%.
For passenger cars, Nissan was the fifth best selling brand in the UK for September and just 10 registrations behind the fourth placed Audi. Add Nissan’s 1,598 LCV registrations to the total and Nissan easily overtakes its German rival.
Of the 18,573 Nissans registered in September, the biggest sellers were the British-built crossovers with the Qashqai models totalling 6,068 and the Juke taking 4,475. The new Micra came in third place with 3,540 sales.
Nissan GB’s managing director Jim Wright said: “There’s no doubt that the market is tough out there at the moment. But Nissan is making cars that people want to buy and there is still demand out there for good product.”
Demand for the best-selling Qashqai, Juke and Micra models is expected to increase further over the coming months as new, more efficient versions of all three make their way into showrooms.
Recently announced revisions to the Juke have resulted in fuel savings and the new DIG-S version of the Micra uses highly-advanced technology to create one of the most fuel-efficient petrol engines in the world.
The Qashqai has also received a new engine, a 1.6-litre diesel with stop-start which produces just 119g/km of CO2.
