![]() |
As vehicles become more integrated with the road environment, technology advancements dedicated to safer and more convenient systems will become more prominent in vehicles moving forward. As a leading supplier of many of these advanced technologies, Continental is at the forefront of development and implementation of a number of technologies dedicated to making driving a safer and more enjoyable experience. As part of its presenting sponsorship of MPG Track Day, Continental will host a Dynamic Driving Experience at the this year's event. The following technologies will be featured:
City Safety -- Volvo XC 60: Continental designed and developed the sensor that enables the low speed collision mitigation technology in Volvo's City Safety feature.
ContiGuard® Emergency Brake Assist -- Prototype vehicle: The advanced collision avoidance system utilizes multiple technologies (lidar, camera and optional radar) to mitigate rear-end collisions at higher speeds than City Safety.
Emergency Steer Assist -- Prototype vehicle: Continental's newest technology -- radar-based obstacle detection with steering assist. When the driver reaches a point where it is too late to stop to avoid a collision, he/she will attempt to steer around the target. The system will detect the obstacle, and assist the driver by adding a torque to the steering wheel in the direction he/she is turning.
Full Speed Adaptive Cruise Control -- BMW 535: Adaptive Cruise Control uses radar to measure the distance to the vehicle in front and assists the driver to keep a desired time gap down to a full stop (full speed range).
Blind Spot Detection -- Prototype vehicle: A demonstration of Continental's radar-based blind spot detection.
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert -- Prototype vehicle: Designed to help drivers when backing out of parking spots, Continental's radar-based alert system detects approaching vehicles and alerts the driver to avoid collision.
Lane Departure Warning -- Mercedes E Class: Continental's camera-based lane detection system alerts drivers when they veer out of their lane.
Double Clutch Transmission Control -- Ford Fiesta: Double clutch transmissions provide the convenience of an automatic with the efficiency and crisp shifts of a manual.
