Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman John D. Dingell (D-MI15) issued the following statement in support of the labor contract recently agreed to by the United Auto Workers (UAW) and Ford Motor Company. The agreement will bolster domestic production by adding 12,000 jobs at U.S. production facilities by 2015.
“I commend the UAW and Ford for reaching this responsible, forward-looking agreement,” said Dingell. “It is proof positive that labor and management can cooperate to preserve a company’s long-term competitiveness and at the same time promote domestic job creation. I am pleased that Ford has committed to investing $16.2 billion in the US, a large portion of which will be invested in Michigan. The UAW and Ford deserve praise for their hard work to protect and create domestic jobs, as well as ensure the company can out-compete foreign rivals in the future. Both labor and management have my thanks.”
