Mitsubishi Motors Announces Production, Sales & Export Figures For August 2011

TOKYO - September 29, 2011: Mitsubishi Motors Corporation today announced global production, as well as domestic sales and export figures for August 2011.
Total global production for August 2011 came in at 82,351 units, 8.3 percent down over the same month last year and the first consecutive year-on-year monthly fall since July 2011. Production volume in Japan at 40,431 units was 19.2 percent down over the same month last year, the first consecutive year-on-year monthly decrease since July 2011. Passenger car output in Japan at 36,873 units was 16.5 percent down year-on-year. Commercial vehicle output at 3,558 units was 39.6 percent down over August 2010.
Sales in Japan
Vehicle sales in Japan in August totalled 9,652
units, 37.6 percent down on the same month last year and the eleventh
consecutive year-on-year monthly decrease since September 2010. Sales of
passenger cars at 7,373 units were 38.7 percent down and sales of
commercial vehicles at 2,279 units were 33.8 percent down over August 2010.
Registered vehicle sales volume at 4,091 units was 38.4 percent down on the
same month last year. Minicar sales volume at 5,561 units was 37.0 percent
down over August 2010.
Production overseas
Overseas production volume in August
totalled 41,920 units, 5.5 percent up over the same month last year and the
seventh consecutive year-on-year monthly increase since January 2011. By
region, output in Asia at 32,395 units was 3.5 percent up year-on-year.
Output in China at 8,566 units was 6.2 percent up over August 2010. In
North America, output at 4,217 units was 30.4 percent up over the same
period last year, the increase being driven by fleet orders. In Europe,
output at 1,828 units was 1.2 percent up year-on-year. In South America
output at 3,210 units was 4.9 percent up on August 2010.
Export shipments from Japan
Total exports from Japan of 30,916
units were 19.4 percent down on August 2010, the first year-on-year monthly
decrease since May 2011. Exports to Asia at 4,189 units were 5.6 percent
down year-on-year. Exports to North America at 4,051 units were 14.9
percent down over the same period last year. Exports to Europe at 14,260
units were 10.5 percent down on August 2010.
