Honda Racing Confirms BTCC Driver Line-Up For 2012
SLOUGH, UNITED KINGDOM – Sept 19, 2011: Honda Racing has confirmed its experienced and highly successful driver line-up in the current Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship will remain unchanged for 2012.
Gordon ‘Flash’ Shedden and Matt Neal are currently one and two in the BTCC drivers’ standings respectively, with only a point separating them.
Even though there are nine thrilling races left to run and all to play for, the pair have put pen to paper to continue their winning relationship with Honda Racing.
Dave Hodgetts, Managing Director of Honda (UK) said it was excellent news for everyone associated with Honda Racing and Team Dynamics, the car maker’s long-standing BTCC partner.
He commented: “Both Matt and Gordon have been fantastic ambassadors for Honda during this season and we are delighted to have them racing for us in 2012. They will be behind the wheel of a race-prepared version of the new Honda Civic and we believe that will give us outstanding opportunities to further add to Honda’s already-bulging trophy cabinet. We’ve still got a job to finish this year, though.”
Gordon, who is currently number one in the BTCC drivers’ standings, said he was delighted that a deal had been done for next season. “It gives strong sense of continuity and stability to the team and that’s a very real benefit over some of our rivals.”
Matt, a single point behind his team mate, said Honda’s early commitment to BTCC next season – and to him and Gordon as drivers – was a real boost for the team. “It’s so much more than just being on the track. It’s about the passion and the desire for excellence that flows within the brand. Development work on the new car is well-advanced and we’re excited about its chances.”
