Fans of Flo, the Progressive Girl, Can Vote Her Advertising Icon of the Year

MAYFIELD VILLAGE, OH--September 12, 2011: Flo, the perky, popular insurance clerk featured in commercials from Progressive, has been nominated for the Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame in New York City--reserved for the most influential advertising icons and slogans ever created.

“Vote early and vote often. The competition's fierce, but with your help Flo's smile will soon light up Madison Avenue.”

The public chooses the winners through popular vote. And the competition is intense: only two icons out of a field of 20 get the coveted title of "Advertising Icon of the Year."

That's where Flo's fans come in.

You can vote for Flo here once daily starting Sept. 12 through Sept. 30. Two winners will be announced Oct. 4 during Advertising Week in New York City.

"I'm calling on Flo Nation--especially her 3.1 million Facebook fans--to make their voices heard," said Jeff Charney, Progressive's Chief Marketing Officer. "Vote early and vote often. The competition's fierce, but with your help Flo's smile will soon light up Madison Avenue."

Advertising Week created The Madison Avenue Advertising Walk of Fame, located between 42nd and 50th Streets in New York City, to celebrate great advertising icons and slogans, and recognize their business and brand building impact. Past winners include Juan Valdez, Orville Redenbacher, Mr. Peanut and the M&Ms, among others.

Flo, while flattered by all the attention, is keeping it in perspective:

"I'm pleased as punch just to be nominated and winning would be such an honor," she said. "But my life goals are pretty simple--to ride a unicorn through a waterfall of glitter; and save people hundreds on car insurance. Right now, I like my chances of accomplishing both."
