Special Motorsports Event - Winning, Engineers Teach Others At MIA Race Engineers Winter School

London, August 13, 2011: The Motorsport Industry Association (MIA) knows that motorsport is one of the most challenging careers in which to get a foothold. It calls for a blend of knowledge from education, PLUS practical skills from 'doing the job' - and therein lays the real challenge!

Motorsport teams and employers want young engineers to 'hit the ground running', but where are these vital, race engineering hands-on skills to be learnt?

For the second year, the MIA School of Race Engineering meets this challenge by hosting their unique 4-day course, split over consecutive weekends - Course A on 26/27 November, followed by Course B on 3/4 December 2011.

The industry-supported School is open to all UK or international, second- and third-year engineering undergraduates and graduates. It also welcomes those technicians with some practical race/rally experience, who want to learn more about real and successful race engineering skills from today's experts.

The course is particularly valuable to those engaged in trying to win Formula Student, and has content specifically of value to this challenge.

The programme lecturers are two highly successful, race-proven, young engineers, who really know their stuff:

Dan Walmsley.

Freelance Race Engineer who, in 2010, enjoyed a record-breaking season with Strakka Racing. Their HPD ARX-01c won its class at the Le Mans 24 Hours and took the first outright win for an LMP2 car at the Hungaroring 1000kms. His Strakka LMP2 car remains at the sharp end this year, while he also engineers the Super Nova GP2 cars.

Jay Davenport.

Chief Engineer at the Mark Webber Arden GP3 team. One of the most successful F3000 teams owned by Red Bull's Christian Horner, Arden recently teamed up with Mark Webber to create this GP3 Championship team. With just Spa and Monza to go in the 2011 championship, MW Arden lead the constructors' points table, and has two drivers in the top six.

The MIA Race School of Race Engineering makes on-track race management "come alive", answers questions not found in any textbook, and helps better understand what it takes to be a "fully functioning" race engineer. Those successfully completing both Course A and B are awarded the industry-recognised MIA Diploma in Race Engineering, to help in their careers and employment.
