KLD Energy Technologies, Recipient of One of the Largest Energy Awards from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund, Receives another $1.4 Million

AUSTIN, TX—August 3, 2011: KLD Energy Technologies Inc., leaders in electric propulsion and generation systems, has received $1.4 million from the Texas Emerging Technology Fund (TETF). The funds are the second installment of a $2.8 million award from the State of Texas’ TETF and represent one of the top three largest awards given to an energy company since the program’s inception.

The infusion of funding will continue to support KLD Energy Technologies’ efforts in the commercialization of its breakthrough propulsion and generation system, as well as the company’s expansion strategy to introduce its products into new markets and regions around the world. To date, KLD Energy Technologies has raised approximately $22 million in funding.

KLD Energy Technologies is focused on the research, development and commercialization of advanced technologies. The company’s propulsion and generation systems use several innovative composite materials, including a nano-crystalline class of materials, to conduct energy with greater efficiency than traditional iron-core motors and operate at a high frequency. This proprietary approach eliminates the need for a transmission, resulting in a substantial increase in system efficiency and representing one of the highest torque-to-weight ratios available in electric motors.

KLD Energy Technologies’ initial application of its technology is the two-wheel electric vehicle market. The company is working with leading scooter and motorcycle manufacturers worldwide to provide a cost-effective, high-performance and environmentally progressive propulsion system.

KLD Energy Technologies recently signed an agreement to provide the company’s drive system to Malaysia-based Eclimo, a leading electric vehicle manufacturer. In a joint venture with Vietnam-based Tien Loc Co. Ltd., KLD Energy Technologies is slated to produce electric drive systems for the growing Vietnamese market and is collaborating with several major Chinese companies.

KLD Energy Technologies is also working in diversified industrial channel markets that can benefit from efficient, high-torque motor systems, including wind energy generation equipment, forklifts, elevators, escalators, air conditioners, pumps, and three and four-wheel electric vehicles.
