New York Yankee shortstop becomes first Bronx Bomber to get 3,000 base hits

NEW YORK - July 9, 2011: Today, Derek Jeter, who wears #2 on his uniform, became a #1 in baseball history. In what might be said to be a "ruthian" effort, Derek not only got his 3,000th major league baseball hit, the hit was a home run and it was on a day that he went 5-for-5. It was a great day for him, all Jeter fans, and for baseball.

While baseball coverage is not normally a part of The Auto Channel's realm, it is today because of the significance of the acheivement and because baseball is part of most automobile-lovers' lifestyle.
