Volkswagen Delivers Over Two Million Vehicles For The First Time In Period To May
WOLFSBURG, GERMANY - June 15, 2011: Deliveries by the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand increased further in the first five months of this year, with the brand delivering over two million vehicles for the first time in the period to May. A total of 2.09 (January – May 2010: 1.86; +12.2 per cent) million vehicles were handed over to customers. The brand reported another noticeable increase in deliveries for the month of May, with 436,400 (May 2010: 376,100) vehicles sold, a rise of 16.1 per cent. “Our positive trend continued in May and we have posted yet another delivery record,” Christian Klingler, Board Member for Sales and Marketing for the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand, commented in Wolfsburg on Tuesday.
The brand delivered 792,100 (666,400; +18.9 per cent) vehicles in the Asia / Pacific region from January to May, of which 714,200 (619,700; +15.3 per cent) units were handed over to customers in China, the largest single market. Deliveries in North America, where the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand handed over 194,600 (162,600; +19.7 per cent) vehicles to customers in the first five months, were also very encouraging.
The brand reported a noticeable increase in the Central and Eastern Europe region, with deliveries rising 40.2 per cent to 71,900 (51,300) units. The brand almost doubled deliveries in the single market of Russia to 34,400 (17,300; +99.1 per cent) units. Volkswagen Passenger Cars also reported a rise on its home market of Germany, delivering 248,800 (240,000; +3.6 per cent) vehicles there.
