JUPITER, May 24, 2011: Golf cart racing and the inaugural bicycle drag racing headline the action for this Saturday’s Family Fun Day at Palm Beach International Raceway. In celebration of the holiday weekend, Palm Beach International Raceway invites racers of all ages and classes to PBIR’s all-concrete drag strip for an afternoon of racing and family fun.
Whether racers want to test and tune their vehicle or compete in the gamblers-style race, there will be all sorts of action on the drag strip. The Quick 16 door car and dragster classes will run the quarter-mile and to keep competition fierce, drivers will need to race within two-tenths of their qualifying run.
“We’re looking forward to this weekend’s Family Fun Day at PBIR,” said Jason Rittenberry, President and CEO, Palm Beach International Raceway. “We’re trying a few new things this weekend in addition to our on-track drag racing. Palm Beach International Raceway is affordable, fun, family entertainment and we’re hoping to see some familiar faces on the drag strip as well as some new fans in the stands.”
Palm Beach International Raceway’s official drag racing driving school – Driven 2 Win will provide rides in the custom two-seat dragster during Saturday’s event. Owner, operator and lead instructor Nelson Hoyos is a two-time NHRA Sport Compact Champion and 2004 Turbo Magazine ‘Driver of the Year.’ Hoyos provides fans a thrill of a lifetime as he pilots the two-seat dragster down PBIR’s drag strip, posting a speed of more than 130 miles per hour. Hoyos’ two-seater will stage in the beams and accelerate from zero to 100 in three seconds.
For those looking for competition but with a little less horsepower, fans and racers can bring their two-wheeled pedal bicycle to PBIR on Saturday. For $5 per entry, bicycle riders will have two practice runs then compete in a heads-up challenge in the first-time event at PBIR. Winner of the inaugural bicycle drag race will receive a $250 Palm Beach International Raceway gift card.
For the slightly more adventurous racer, golf cart races will debut at PBIR this weekend. Golf cart racers must have a valid driver’s license and pay a $20 entry fee to compete. Similar to the bicycle race, golf cart racers will have two practice runs before elimination rounds. Winner of the golf cart drag race will receive a $250 Palm Beach International Raceway gift card.
To add to the family atmosphere of the day, Family Fun Day will have the FlyHigh Tramp O Bungee and an 135-foot inflatable obstacle course. Located inside the PBIR Food Court, FlyHigh Tramp O Bungee allows riders to jump, flip and tuck all while attached to the safest Euro Bungee cords available. The 135-foot inflatable obstacle course named “Typhoon” is one of the longest obstacle courses on the market.
